Journey overview

Mallorca

Situated in the north-east of the island, near Son Servera and the bay of Cala Millor, and constructed in 1995, this 18-hole par 72 course has since been redesigned with the help of Olazabal, who changed 12 holes during 2004 and 2005.

The Pula complex has everything to meet the golfer's needs, including a two-tier driving range, short game area and a delightful clubhouse-cum-hotel renovated from an ancient farmhouse, dating back to 1581.

The course is tough and demanding, but fun for players of all abilities. The range of teeing areas offers a choice as to how hard you wish the course to play.

The 172-yard par-3 2nd is an early treat. It is played over a canyon to green which the Americans would say has an "elephant burial ground" - it is raised and humped in the middle. It's tough to two-putt, but fun to try.

If you can fade the ball you'll do well at Pula. Holes 3, 6 and 7 all dogleg left to right quite sharply and if you're safe from the tee, offer birdie chances.

The redesigned 17th was the centrepiece of the 2005 Mallorca Classic. It's a long par-4 played downhill, with a vast lake to the left and a well-bunkered green, offering great potential for dramatic moments.

What  Clients Say:

It's a shame but one leaves Pula with a sense of impending doom. The club house was shut, the tight driving range was spartan, the course was tatty, the greens and tees needed a shave and the drinks buggy was unappetising. "It's a shame" because Pula is a magnificent golf course with many superbly designed holes - long, tight and challenging, just as a PGA championship course should be. Good golfers will love it, despite the road traffic noise which soon fades as you get going. A small posh hotel on the same site provides a jolly 19th hole with good beer and food. Overall, lunchers will not be impressed by the atmosphere; beginners will find the course hard work and will need plenty of ammo, but keen golfers will want to play it again, in a vain attempt to tame this brutal yet captivating test of golf. I like the variety of holes and the overall course distance, although it was obvious that it had had a lot of play this season. Oct 11

Price v Quality - Excellent. We turned up at 09:00 on a Thursday morning; course very quiet, got off on time, course in great nick. Jun 11

I think value for money this year is outstanding. May 11

Pula was the only course I played; it was superb. The staff were all very helpful, and I enjoyed it so much I booked an extra round direct with the course. I will add it was cheaper to book with you than to go direct. Nov 10

Pula was such a contradiction, some amazing holes but some that were like farmers' fields. Oct 07
