A visit to the oldest wine cellar
Vines have been grown on the rolling hills along the Drava ever since Roman times. The wine cellars of Ptuj even house the oldest wine in Slovenia, dating back to 1917. In the Ptuj Minorite monastery you can see the oldest preserved wine cellar in Slovenia.
Roman dinner
At Roman dinners for private groups, women are transformed into seductive augustae and men into generals, senators, philosophers and poets. The dishes are prepared using ancient Roman recipes.
Roman games
Every year in the second half of August, Ptuj transforms symbolically into the ancient Roman market and military settlement of Poetovio. A number of organised groups from Slovenia and abroad come together to bring the town's two thousand year old history to life.
Carnival
Celebrated across several days, the Ptuj carnival with traditional kurent costumes is the largest carnival event in Slovenia. The carnival attracts over 100,000 visitors each year.
