Journey overview
Timeless venue
Vale do Lobo Golf Resort is home to two exceptional golfing challenges: the Royal and the Ocean golf courses, based on original concepts by thelegendary Sir Henry Cotton and re-developed by renowned American golf course architect, RockyRoquemore.
A challenging championship course
The two Vale do Lobo Golf Courses complement each other delightfully. The Royal Golf Course is characterised by undulating fairways set amidstpine trees and beautiful lakes surrounded by wild flowers, leading unsuspecting golfers to its pièce de résistance: the 16th hole.
The 6175 metres long Vale do Lobo Royal Golf Course has championship tees, and is a lot more difficult than the Ocean Course. This is because of its more interrupted terrain, the amount ofwater and sand obstacles and its generallylonger holes.
The most breathtaking views
Vale do Lobo Royal Golf Course's features include the almost island green of the Par3 9th and thefamous 16th, Par 3 with cliff-top carryover – one of the most celebrated golfing images in the world, which has become the veritable symbol of golf in the Algarve. To play this hole from the championship tee, one needs a 218 metres stroke over the spectacular cliffs to reach the green. It should also be mentioned holes 6, 16 and 17 where the water is part of the game.
Views from each of the tees of the Vale do Lobo Royal Golf Course are out along the length of the coastline westwards. And so to the last hole: this closing hole is not particularly long, but the green has raised banking to the left and the ground falls steeply away to the right.
Luxurious facilities
A host of top-notch clubhouse facilities enhance the Vale do Lobo golfing experience: an excellent brasserie and restaurant, training facilities including a fully-equipped Fitness Centre, Vale do Lobo.
